Arc excitation is a phenomenon that can occur in power transmission lines when there is overvoltage in areas where insulation has been reduced or when there is a lot of pollution. Although rare, direct lightning can also cause the arc to be excited. It is important to highlight that, to prevent this type of occurrence, the transmission lines have lightning protection devices, the so-called “lightning rods”.
